New courses available on Smartbox Academy!

We believe that every voice we provide should be supported by people who feel confident using AAC. That’s why learning and professional development are such an important part of what we do.

This month, we’re expanding our English branch on Smartbox Academy with a range of new courses and a new course category, designed to support professionals, families and communication partners as they develop their understanding of AAC.

These courses cover everything from getting started with devices and software, to exploring communication approaches and practical strategies for supporting AAC users in everyday environments.

Whether you are completely new to AAC or looking to deepen your knowledge, there are new learning opportunities to explore. Take a look below at what’s new.

 

Introducing a new Conference Talks category

This month, we’re introducing a new Conference Talks category on Smartbox Academy. This back catalogue will showcase selected sessions delivered by members of the Smartbox Group at conferences around the world.

By bringing these talks onto the Academy, you can access valuable insights and learning opportunities wherever you are, helping us share expertise beyond the conference setting.

We’re launching the category with the following talks:

Introduction to Multimodal Communication

This course explores multimodal communication – what it is, why it matters, and how different communication methods such as AAC, gesture, symbols and speech can work together. It also looks at how multimodal supports can be implemented within Grid.

Welcome Session: Introducing your Talk Pad

Designed for anyone new to a Talk Pad communication device, this course introduces the device and the basics of Grid for iPad, along with helpful tips to support early AAC use.

This course guides learners through the Grid Pad device range and introduces key features of Grid 3, helping new users build confidence navigating their communication device.

New bite-sized course

Introduction to Alpha Core

This short course introduces the Alpha Core grid set, guiding learners through its seven keyboard layouts and features such as prediction, scheduling and accessible apps. Originally designed for individuals with ALS (MND), Alpha Core provides flexible text-based communication options for a wide range of users.
