New Widget Symbols coming to Grid
We’re excited to share that the latest version of Grid will include a huge update to the Widgit Symbols library, with improvements to existing symbols, and over 2,000 new symbols. This update gives Grid users access to a richer vocabulary across health, family, education, daily life, and more, making it easier to communicate about the things that matter most.
Available on both Windows and iPad, in Grid version 99 or above.
Expanded health and medical symbol libraries
This update includes expanded health and medical care vocabulary, with more symbols to support people to talk about their bodies, physical and mental health, medical treatments, and personal care.

Updated symbols for family and relationships
Widgit’s updated family and relationships symbols cover a wide range of roles, connections, and identities.
The original schema was created in 2000, and Widgit has updated the library with care to make sure it represents our world – and reflects the various ways that people talk about who they are and the relationships that are important to them.

Expanded Vocabulary for Daily Life
Beyond health and family, you’ll also find new symbols across everyday topics like:
- Sexuality, relationships, and safeguarding
- Movement, actions, and interaction
- Animals and nature
- Food, drink, and cooking
- Learning, education, and communication
- Society, law, and history
- Religion, culture, and celebrations
- Space, geography, and environment
- Daily life and housing
- Transport and travel
- Arts, music, and play
- Emotions and personality

Together, these new additions help make Grid’s symbol library more inclusive, up to date, and flexible – supporting users in their conversations and creating more opportunity for deeper discussions. We hope that these symbols will give people the tools they need to communicate about the topics that are most meaningful to them.
